phone@trbo™ (also iTalkie™/PI): telephone interconnect

The phone@trbo™ system allows radios to connect to corporate office phone systems (PBX) or even the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Incoming calls can be routed to individual or groups of radios.

For instance you can:

  • Pre-program a button to make emergency 911 calls
  • Transfer calls to security guard’s radios while away from their desk
  • Use the company’s phone system to dial a specific radio or talkgroup
  • Make emergency calls to the AllCall talkgroup

phone@trbo™ offers the features of a traditional analog phone patch while adding the benefits of both digital telephony and MOTOTRBO™ radios. For instance, text messaging is used for signaling, not only to make and hangup a call, but also to notify the caller-ID of an incoming call. In case the call is missed, it is easy to call back by simply replying to the caller-ID text message.

phone@trbo™ is flexible in handling incoming calls: it can be configured to either route a call to a predefined talkgroup or individual radio, or to send it to the integrated interactive voice response system (IVR - voice menu) where the user can dial a specific radio or talkgroup. With VoIP systems extensions can be mapped to individual radios or groups.

When deploying phone@trbo™, it acts as a simple telephone extension of an IP-based PBX connected through the LAN. It can also support legacy analog telephone systems using an inexpensive external analog FXO gateway adapter.

Unlike other solutions, it does not require option boards to be installed in the radio, it supports any MOTOTRBO™ architecture (conventional, IP Site Connect and Capacity Plus), and is very affordable! To allow such flexibility and reduce deployment costs, only one control station is required. Support for MOTOTRBO™'s transmit interrupt makes 3/4-duplex operation very friendly to phone callers.

phone@trbo™ is based on the iTalkie™/RG radio gateway (hence iTalkie/PI) thus allowing for future expansion to all the features of the iTalkie™ solution, including email, dispatch, fleet management, SCADA and logging. It is shipped in a pre-configured turnkey system with remote management tools to further simplify deployments.
